    Carping Up The Wrong Tree

As a direct response copywriter and marketer, I love the facts. I love the numbers and the stats that prove or disprove theory and the assumed ideas that have been mistakenly treated as truth and absolutes.

More often than not, through working with me, clients discover that many of their cherished assumptions are just that, simply because no one ever bothered to find out.

So naturally I love the Junk Science site. It’s on the speed-dial of my RSS feed aggregator and this article is just the latest of their mythbusters. Btw, the one on global-warming is also an eye-opener. It pokes a finger in the eye of that favorite darling of the enviromental lobby. Talk about “An Inconvenient Truth.”

Get the facts and then decide for yourself. But back to today’s fish story . . .

We all know that eating fish is good for us, right? And even though fish may have a higher percentage of mercury, it probably won’t hurt us because the health benefits outweigh the potential risks. You’ve heard that, right?

But is it true? By what standards did they measure the results and just how did they collate their data and report their facts?

I won’t spoil it for you. Go here and read it and prepare yourself.

    Fishy Dietary Advice
Researchers announced this week that the health benefits of eating fish outweigh the risks. But as far as the data indicate, the scales are empty — there appear to be no special health benefits or risks to weigh . . .

Now, the next logical course of action is to look more at those things you assume are true and see if the data bears scrutiny. If you think it is true, how do you know that it is?
