Blog "Experts" Gone Wild!
A client recently forwarded an invite to a blogging seminar one of his associates signed up to attend, and asked me for my take on it. See my unvarnished take on it below the actual email. I removed the links because I don’t want to give those schlockmeisters any more free press than I have to.

Here’s what I sent to him by way of analysis:
Oy vey . . . I’m surprised anyone would seriously countenance squandering precious time on doing this.
Let me break it down, in no particular order.
Some warning signs: you’re going to ‘get exposed to the secrets of the experts.’
Well, who are they? Notice how they’re not named? When that happens, there’s always a reason. And for the double-whammy: that’s just poor copywriting. Remember the Vitale Lesson: extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. Failure to do so erodes credibility.
“Turnkey solutions”? “Generate Massive Traffic and Ongoing Sales!” Ok. Prove it, I say. And yet notice that none was provided. Always a telling reason for that, as well. You never hide your proven experts, do you? No, you push them out front and highlight them with spotlights and big neon signs.
This is clearly an ‘event’ put on by people trying to capitalize on the “business blogging craze” with no credibility and no background and they’re banking on roping in people who have lack the experience to know better.
I’d be interesting to find out how Mr. X found this offer and perhaps more importantly, how did it make it’s way to his Inbox w/o being flagged as spam?
More warning signs: a over-obvious keyword-stuffed landing page, but no real content. “Danger, Will Robinson!”
> I know it’s clearly a sales pitch as well as informational.
More the former and less the latter. And you know I have to ask this question: how do you know it’s informational? I daresay you, through working with me probably know more than these alleged experts. So if you’re seeking affirmation on how much you already know, this may be worth your while to attend.
Not saying it’s a good idea, given the really important items you have on your agenda.
See, there are limitations to being a ‘blogging expert.’ I’m a expert at copywriting and marketing strategies — of which, blogging is just one component. As you’ve seen, blogging by itself can be severely limiting and to be effective must be part of a synergistic approach.
This is where many ‘blogging experts’ miss the boat.
