Will any of the decisions you made today still reverberate the historical gong nearly 2,500 years later? For
the matter will any of the decisions you made in this lifetime be remembered that long?
Kyle McFarlin’s recent battle royales with Mindjet neglect and HP’s Customer Dis-Service Department reminded me of this.
I hope he feels good about what he accomplished and I couldn’t help but notice the guy who commented before him and what he did when faced with a similar situation.
He gave up. Unlike McFarlin.
See, what McFarlin did that was so powerful was that he grasped a very simple, very true, time-proven fact: the power one man (or woman) has when they decide to make a difference.
All too often, current culture tends to disempower individuals and encourages them to “fit in” and “don’t make waves.”
If you haven’t watched 300 then put it on the Must-Watch list. See how, in 483 BC 300 ‘little guys’ stood off over two million marauding Persians and broke their lust for Western conquest for over 600 years.
Had Xerxes succeeded in conquering the Greek states, then he and his father would have invaded Europe next, democracy would never have been born and there would be no “Western Civilization” and we’d all be Muslims and the law of the land would be sharia.
But thanks to Leonidas and personal guard, plus one fateful decision — the next invasion of Europe wouldn’t be attempted for another 616 years, when once again Westerners would be forced to defend their way of life (The Crusades).*
That was just the short-term result. Long-term, the disparate Greek states banded together to form a country and the foundations for democracy were born and that reverberates all the way to today, nearly 2,500 years later.
Not bad for one decision.
* = The Crusades, contrary to the popular PC (and inaccurate) way it is taught in public schools, were to prevent the Muslim invasion of Europe, not to invade the Holy Land (though they did have to do that because the Muslims were using those lands to stage the invasion).
But don’t take my word for it. Check out The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades). It’s an eye-opener. And do verify for yourself some of the bibliographical references, just to be sure.
Then the next time someone says “Yes, Islamic terrorists are awful, but didn’t we start it all with the Crusades?” You’ll be able to educate them that the Crusades were a much-too-late response to Muslims overrunning the Holy Land 500 years earlier.
Which, if you’re counting, was a mere 116 years after the Greeks drove them out.
