Washington Post, Other Newspapers Afraid To Run Cartoon Mocking Radical Islam

    **UPDATE!**

This just in. Seems the global Muslim PR machine is in full swing as an Iranian minister calls the Swedish ambassador onto the carpet. See more details in my update at the end of this post.

Back to the original post . . .

    =============================================

Big surprise. Cowards. While they all feel free to mock anything smacking of conservative Christianity, mainstream media (often known as the “dinosaur media”) wring their hands, mince their words and prance about on eggshells in the hopes of not offending the (seemingly) thin-skinned and perpetually outraged Muslims.

So much for journalistic standards. Cowards. But see, I’m repeating myself. That’s how mad I am.

When I was in Journalism school at UMC, we would have been drummed out for this kind of double standard coverage.

    What Happened

The Washington Post and a number of other newspapers pulled last Sunday’s and the upcoming week’s Berkeley Breathed comicstrip ”Opus” because, get this — ‘there was a question Muslims might be offended.’

They arrived at this conclusion by polling some Muslim staffers and yep, they were offended, all right. Yeah, big surprise there, Sherlock.

So I say, yeah? Did they take a similar poll of Christian employees the previous week (August 19) when they ran Breathed’s strip taking a shot at the late Jerry Falwell?

The answer would be “no.” Why is that? I’ll get to that in a moment.

But first, read on for yourself, below is a snippet of the most outrageous part of the article.

“But she did alert newspapers about the Muslim-themed cartoon because there was a question about whether Muslim readers would be offended.

“I don’t necessarily think it’s poking fun [at Islam],” Lago said. “But the question with Muslims is, are they taking it seriously?”

The “Opus” strip in question takes swipes at Islamists — a term used for radical Muslims — as opposed to moderate Muslims, she pointed out, but there was concern that the distinction wouldn’t be clear. And, she said, racy jokes sometimes draw fire, too.”

Now let me get this straight. Last week they were perfectly fine running the strip taking a good-natured whack at Jerry Falwell. And you gotta admit, for all the wingnut things he said, he had this one coming.

But to be fair, so do the Muslims, Islamists, CAIR and all the other Muslim-Arab lobbying groups. For all the wingnut things they say and do every single week, they too deserve an little lampooning, just to let the hot air out.

So are the cowardly newspapers telling us that the Muslims can’t take it on the chin for a change? Or are they simply afraid of the full weight of the Muslim PR machine descending upon them?

And just when did Muslims become privileged and protected? More importantly, who granted them that status?

Since when did this country kow-tow to any religious group? Since when did newspapers fail to lance the pomposity and hypocrisy of religious leaders and groups?

As it stands now, all religions are fair-game for lampooning, except Islam. Favorite targets are Christians, Catholics and Jews, but never Muslims, right? And have you noticed that the so-called “conservative Christians” are the last group that everyone feels perfectly comfortable to discriminate against?

Take this instance . . . or nearly any airing of SNL . . . late night talk show hosts . . . they all feel perfectly free to discriminate against Christians, yet when was the last time you saw a funny skit making fun of Muslims? When was the last time Leno or Letterman ridiculed CAIR (which doesn’t really represent Muslims at all) or Muhammad?

Yeah . . . me neither. Save for South Park. They are truly equal opportunity offenders and they’re afraid of no one. Too bad American (and for that matter, the world) media doesn’t emulate that fearlessness.

Murrow must be doing high-frequency spins in his grave over this collapse of journalistic standards.

Now for the record, I’m no conservative Christian and I think any religion is fair game and should be big enough to take some lampooning now and then. And always, always they should be held accountable for actions and in-actions alike.

    How To Stop The Discrimination

I’ll tell you the day discrimination against Christians stops. It’s the day when the conservative Christians start making the media afraid to make them targets — just as the Muslim-Islamists have. They need to take a page from the CAIR and “Arab-American” strategy guide and make the media afraidto criticize them.

Maybe it’s time for them to quit turning the other cheek and start smackin’ a few instead.

Please tell me you’ve noticed the discrepancy in coverage. And in case you shoved it into short-term memory, let’s not forget the courageous Danish cartoonists who drew political cartoons that featured the prophet Muhammad.

2 years later and they ARE STILL IN HIDING because of the perpetually outraged and thin-skinned Muslims have issued fatwas on their lives.

What is it with this religion and little pencil and ink drawings?

Will someone please explain this @#$% to me? This is the United States Of America, isn’t it? We didn’t become a colony of the Arab States when I wasn’t looking, did we?

    =============================================

    **Today’s UPDATE**

Monday, an Iranian minister summoned the Swedish diplomat to his offices to protest a cartoon in a Swedish newspaper depicting the head of Prophet Muhammad on a dog’s body.

Here’s my impertinent question — why in the world was the Iranian minister even concerned over a cartoon published in another country’s paper? And why was he attempting to use political leverage to squash freedom of expression?

Oh right, that’s how they do things in Tehran-town.

And btw, have you seen the cartoons Muslim and Arabic countries routinely run, depicting Jews and Americans? They look like a cross between the Hollywood torture films and Nazi propaganda films.

Herr Goebbels would be so proud.

But I don’t ask that you take my word for it. Do a web search and prepare to be horrified and amused. Once you’ve seen the cartoonish propaganda they put out against Jews and other infidels, you’ll be less tolerant of their protestations when they have to deal with the more civilized version of ’shoe-on-the-other-foot.’

Folks, if the freedom to ridicule Islam (like we do all religions) goes out the window, then Muslims will  become a privileged, protected class, immune from any social satire and more importantly, immune any questioning of motives. I suspect that is the Muslim special interests groups’ endgame.

And since the basic tenant of Islam is the subjugation of the entire world to their religion, then squashing public debate and discourse would be a good first step, wouldn’t it?

However, I think the outrageous behavior of CAIR and other Muslim lobbying groups is a good thing. It shows a mostly somnambulistic American public how they are changing the debate by trying to control it.

If you have the knowledge, then you can look at their actions and see the Arthur Murray footprints on the floor showing the entire plan.

    And that’s a Good Thing.
