Top 10 Things I Learned From Bill O’Reilly

I call them my “O’Reilly Principles” and use them to navigate my personal and professional lives through thebilloreilly morasses of our culture. Look, whatever you may think of him and the way he delivers his coverage, Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly is a straight shooter.

I’m sure you’ll have your personal favorite in the list below. I have two. Primary is #6, something that has become rare and precious in a time when ideological opinion masquerades as news and fact.

I’ve got a beaut of an example of this coming up in a couple of days, so you want to stay tuned for that.

My second fave is the second of the two tied for #1– “Don’t justify bad behavior by pointing to more bad behavior.” Sometimes I think I’m the only one who that drilled into me in grade school.

Probably because I got whacked for it so often.

Also, as some of you have pointed out, I routinely violate #2. Sigh . . . I know . . . but you should know that I really, really try not to.

    10. No hiding under the desk

    09. Don’t be a pinhead

    08. Answer the question

    07. No spinning

    06. Back up opinions with facts

    05. Protect the kids

    04. Identify who’s looking out for you

    03. Let the folks decide

    02. Keep it pithy

    01. Absolutely no bloviating!

Tied for the #1 position is this gem: “Don’t justify bad behavior by pointing to more bad behavior.”
