UK Kiboshes Selling Gore "Brainwashing" Film To Kids

Last week, a UK court lowered the boom on liberal school teachers and ruled that Al Gore’s An fearmongoreInconvenient Truth “. . . does promote ‘artisan political views and 11 inaccuracies have to be specifically drawn to the attention of school children.”

At last . . . now maybe the U.S. education system will follow the example and wise up. I know here in the ultra-liberal Great Northwest, worried parents are extracting their kids from the public educational system to homeschool them.

While the showing of An Inconvenient Truth wasn’t the full cause, it was one of the last straws in a string of incidents that included Gore’s film scaring the piss out of kids and they went home regurgitating

bad science and partisan politics to horrified parents.

Here are clips from my favorite parts of the article. Click the link for the full education . . .

“The move follows a High Court action by a father who accused the Government of ‘brainwashing’ children with propaganda by showing it in the classroom.

Stewart Dimmock said the former U.S. Vice-President’s documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, is unfit for schools because it is politically biased and contains serious scientific inaccuracies and ’sentimental mush’.

. . . saying that Gore’s Oscar-winning film does promote ‘partisan political views’.

This means that teachers will have to warn pupils that there are other opinions on global warming and they should not necessarily accept the views of the film.

. . . ‘I wish my children to have the best education possible, free from bias and political spin, and Mr Gore’s film falls far short of the standard required.’

. . . ‘no amount of turgid guidance’ could change the fact that the film is unfit for consumption in the classroom.’

. . . during the three-day hearing, the court heard that the critically-acclaimed film contains a number of inaccuracies, exaggerations and statements about global warming for which there is currently insufficient scientific evidence.”

Fair & Balanced In The Classroom?

Too bad schools aren’t mirroring news organizations like Fox News, where both sides of the argument are presented and the viewers are allowed to decide for themselves. When was the last time you saw a fair debate on CNN? NBC? ABC? CBS? MSNBC? On those channels, if they have both sides represented then it’s one titular conservative and 3 liberals.

    Funny . . . but I digress.

I would be all for Gore’s film being shown if documentaries like The Great Global Warming Swindle were also shown and books like The Politically Incorrect Guide To Global Warming were represented alongside global warming books and films.

And, oh yeah — better sure the discussion is moderated by someone other than just the teacher.

    Why?

Since most teachers vote Democratic (data from teacher unions’ political contributions prove this, you can look it up yourself) and since most Democrats believe in the Gore film, then I would want to ensure that the teacher doesn’t squelch opposing points of view, which often happens in U.S. classrooms.

Man, I would love to sit in on those balanced discussions, wouldn’t you? Imagine, young minds grasping with essential issues and learning the power of debate and thinking for one’s self . . . while sifting through the data to sort opinion from fact.

It would create a new generation of free thinkers and more astute minds. But, the teachers unions will never allow this to happen. Nor will the ACLU.

    Ahhh . . .

    ****UPDATE!****

Thanks to an average citizen and concerned parent, UK teachers, in order to show An Inconvenient Truth, the Government must first amend their Guidance Notes to Teachers to make clear that:

1.) The Film is a political work and promotes only one side of the argument.

2.) If teachers present the Film without making this plain they may be in breach of section 406 of the Education Act 1996 and guilty of political indoctrination.

3.) Eleven inaccuracies have to be specifically drawn to the attention of school children.

Here are the 11 inaccuracies in the film:
